Sonic You Let me Down Again

I've been playing Sonic Chronicles the Dark Brotherhood on my DS for a while and it's really bugging me. Most of the game is pretty good but I hate the combat with those stupid touch control power moves. I might not mind it too much if there was some place I could practice the moves, other than more combat. It is so stupid to have the enemies wail on you and the best you can do is fumble around with the damn stylus like some retarded kindergartner learning to use crayons for the first time. I loved the Sonic games on my Genesis and even have kept a Sega CD around for the lone Sonic game on it. Maybe it's a matter of patience, which currently I am in short supply of. Either way it is a struggle to enjoy this game and that is just not right. Sonic deserves better and I know Bioware can do better.

Game Resolutions

It's still January so I can make some gaming resolutions, right? Gaming in 2008 was pretty stellar and so far 2009 doesn't look any different, recession be damned. So in no particular order my resolutions are.

1) Finish more games. I look at at my 360 gamerscore and get so depressed. I have to work on finishing up some more games. Elder Scrolls, Bioshock, Half Life 2, are just sitting there. And now I just started Dark Sector, Too Human and Rock Band 2.

2) Speaking of Rock Band I want to play on hard. I know there are some plastic fretboard gods and goddesses out there laughing at that but that's my goal and I'm sticking to it.

3) Play more of the downloaded games I bought from XBLA and Wii ware.

4) Find a suitable replacement magazine for EGM. Shouldn't be too hard seeing how Ziff Davis turned EGM into a shadow of its former self before they pulled the plug.

5) Update this blog more often, duh.

6) Play online more. I have to get my $50 worth of it at least. Though it probably won't happen. I get tired of having my ass handed to me by foul mouthed twelve-year-olds. Even if the physical age is not accurate the behavior is.

7) Give the Wii some more time. That shouldn't be too hard with HOD Overkill and Mad World right around the corner.

Well, that should do it. A lucky 7 or unlucky 7 depending on where I am in December.

I'm Back

I know it has been awhile. So many games, so many disappointments. Well not so many, but enough. I'm so glad I have a Gamefly account. I could have been stuck with some real klunkers.

Now Playing: The Darkness

One of the best FPS's I've played so far on my 360. I really like how there are so many different ways you can play this. It is also the first FPS that my wife is playing. Some can say it is a little on the short side but I think the length is just right and I plan to go back and play through it again on a harder difficulty level. I haven't tried multiplayer yet, but only because my wireless switch died this week. I'm not a big fan of it so I don't think it will change my opinion of the game one way or the other. This is a must own for lovers of FPS's, story driven games, or even mafia movie lovers.

Now Playing Dead or Alive 4

I finally picked up DOA4 the other day. I've liked this series since the arcades and actually have an imported copy of the original DOA on my Saturn. This game lives up to my exceptions with only one issue. Man can it be cheap. Team Ninja excels at making games for game journalists. I know there is a gamer out there who just craves challenge but sometimes I have to wonder if it's better to just have something be fun. Don't get me wrong I find DOA4 fun, I just hate having to see my poor character face a beat down of biblical proportions when I am powerless to match or block it. Haven't taken it online yet. I don't need to be beaten and swore at at the same time. Overall it won't make me trade in my copy of DOA2 on my Dreamcast or DOA3 on the original Xbox but this is fun for now.

Broken Wii Tutorials

I really hate the recent trend in forcing players to go through some of the worst implemented in game tutorials I’ve ever played. I’m talking about SSX Blur and Sonic and the Secret Rings. I was able to complete the tutorial in Blur and found after some fumbling around the game is not half bad. Granted I had to forget about playing it like a typical SSX game. I gave up on Sonic, took it out of the Wii, and put it back in its Gamefly envelope all in the space of an hour. All I can say is I am so glad I didn’t run out and buy this like I did with SSX Blur. I understand the need to introduce gamers to the control scheme and how it works but there are better ways to do this. And there are games that do a better job of it.

Wii60

It's been a while since I posted. I guess I've been too busy with my Wii60. The only reason I'm posting now is my wife is busy on our 360 playing Elder Scrolls IV. She's further along than I am in the game, but then again she is more of an RPG fan than I am. I'm also Spening a lot of time with Castlevania SOTN. This game is very cool. I've played through all the GBD and DS Castlevania's. I never picked this up for my PSX. I was a bit of a Saturn snob back then. I actually imported the Saturn version and managed to play about half way thorugh before it was too confusing for me. Having it in English is a big help.
